Urgent Rent-A-Car Owner Hit With Insurance Fraud Charges – WLDS

The owner of a rental car agency in Springfield has been charged in Sangamon County Court.

Jordan J. Monroe, 31, of Chatham, was the subject of a single insurance charge filed against him on Wednesday as part of an ongoing investigation which began February 13, 2021 by the Secretary of State of the Illinois police.

According to the charging documents, Monroe allegedly filed a fraudulent insurance claim to receive between $300 and $10,000 from the National Interstate Insurance Company on a single policy. A writ of habeas corpus was filed, requiring Monroe to appear in Sangamon County Court on July 14.

On June 23, it was reported that the Secretary of State’s office revoked Monroe’s Urgent Rent-A-Car Illinois license plates for failing to meet state insurance requirements. The car rental business has come under intense scrutiny after the company’s owner and CEO, Jordan Monroe, was arrested following a high-speed chase in October last year. Urgent Rent-A-Car previously operated a location on East Morton Avenue in Jacksonville. The company has been regularly flagged for questionable business practices. The company currently has a ‘Illinois Better Business Bureau F’ rating.

In a written statement from Illinois Secretary of State spokesman Henry Haupt last week, Monroe and Urgent Rent-A-Car were still under further investigation.

State Log Registry reports that at the company’s front desk, located at 2730 Stevenson Drive in Springfield, Urgent displayed a copy of an insurance policy from Nationwide General Auto Insurance. The policy came into effect in February. The company told the RDS and in a Facebook video post said an audit of the secretary of state’s office was completed last week and confirmed the validity of the agency’s license plates and current insurance policy. Monroe in calls to WLDS News and in several online posts denied any wrongdoing.

An email requesting additional information about the charges against Monroe from the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office was not released at press time.
