Mail thieves strike East Lake neighborhood

Atlanta Police are investigating multiple mail thefts in Zone 6 and social media posts are buzzing with frustration after a neighbor in East Lake says thieves stole an expensive device from his mailbox.

A woman who did not want to speak on camera said thieves stole an iPod she was planning to give to a child as part of a DFACS Secret Santa trade. It was stolen just hours after delivery.

Surveillance video from the porch shows a man, with another person in the front seat, trying to enter a locked mailbox.

“It’s not Fort Knox or anything, but it’s better than being wide open,” Rebecca Jackson said.

“He reached out his hand first, tried to open it, and when he realized it was locked, he used both of his hands and pulled it until he gave in.” , she said.

He got away with an iPod meant to make a child’s vacation a little brighter. The woman’s credit card company has cooperated, but she feels lucky that the others may not have money to spend.

Another video from a neighbor’s porch shows a man with a backpack on his stomach carefully checking East Lake mailboxes one morning.

The neighbor who captured the video said he filed a report on Monday, but saw the same person multiple times on his camera.

Here is another man, glancing quickly inside a box that the neighbors said was not his.

“It doesn’t feel good,” Robin Henson said.

She just invested in a safe because she said those snooping around the neighborhood didn’t seem ashamed.

“It’s not a big deal for us, but some people in this neighborhood can’t afford a $ 100 box,” she said.

And that lock didn’t stop the thieves from running away with Jackson’s belongings.

Atlanta Police said they were investigating the mail thefts.

Anyone who recognizes anything in the surveillance footage calls the police.
