Configuring Atlassian SPF and DKIM: step by step


Atlassian is a UK-based, Australian-American software company that provides services like Jira and Trello.

Our setup guide covers the steps for setting up Atlassian SPF and DKIM.

Setup for SPF and DKIM:

Step 1: Go to Settings from your admin panel.

2nd step: Click on “Emails” then add a domain.


Step 3: Once you’ve added your domain, Atlassian will provide you with SPF and DKIM configuration records. Add them under your domain’s DNS zone.


Step 4: Make sure you update your current Atlassian SPF configuration record with the include provided. Do not add a separate new record.


Step 5: Add all remaining records to the DNS zone.


Note: For CNAME records, disable proxy status if using Cloudflare.

Step 6: Now that the records have been added, wait for Atlassian to verify them. In our case, it took about 5 hours.

Under email domains, you should see the status as active once everything is set.

Step 7: From here, you can send DMARC-compliant emails from Atlassian. Just be sure to select an email that ends with your domain as the return path address.

To configure it:

  1. Go to Projects > Notification Settings
  2. Click “Edit”
  3. Select the correct email


Note: Wait at least 24 hours to receive updated DMARC reports to verify that outbound Atlassian emails are compliant.
